Wedding Photographer of the Year: Round 6 – Winner Announced!

The final category winner for this competition has finally been chosen!

Round six was all about location, location, location, and we received some truly breathtaking shots from photographers around the UK. Now it’s time to announce the winner…

And the winner is…

Congratulations to County Durham-based photographer Ray Sawyer, who won with this beautifully dramatic shot:

This gorgeous capture means he has won a 14×10″ Bellissimo album of his choice! Plus, he’s now one of five talented photographers up for overall wedding photographer of the year.

Judge Brett Florens said: “This image conveys a destination adventure with an incredible vista and dramatic lighting. The tried-and-tested compostition helps create a wonderful distant fairy-tale image. Great capture.”

Faye Yerbury said: “Great location and a gorgeous sky perfectly used for this simply posed image of a handsome young wedding couple. I think the backlighting and the soft end-of-day lighting were both perfect to single out the bride and groom from the background.”

Ray went to huge lengths to capture this shot: “This image was taken on the evening we got to the lakes, after an hour-long hike from the car park, shot from Walla Crag overlooking Derwentwater, Keswick. Doesn’t sound too bad does it? Well… I had to carry a hiking bag that contained my photography bag, two heavy-duty light stands, tripod, lighting equipment etc. It was some weight, let me tell you!”

Who will be the overall winner?

We now have our five finalists:

We’ll be announcing the overall Wedding Photographer of the Year 2019 early in the new year, so keep an eye on the Loxley Colour blog to discover which of these five talented photographers is the winner!
